Scheduling for Massive MIMO with Few Excess Antennas

چکیده
Scheduling all user equipment jointly and using a linear precoder is optimal for massive MIMO with a very large number of base station antennas. Scheduling becomes more important as the number of base station antennas is reduced. We determine the regime where scheduling provides gains for massive MIMO scenarios with linear precoding methods. We apply semi-orthogonal user selection to massive MIMO and propose a scheduling algorithm with smaller complexity.

MIMO and massive MIMO - Analysis for a local area scenario
The performance of centralized and distributed deployments of massive MIMO in an office building is analyzed both with and without cooperation. It is shown that using twice as many base station antennas as data streams provides most of the massive MIMO benefits. A simple transmission scheme achieves user fairness and operates close to a capacity upper bound. An example scheduling algorithm impr...
متن کاملSystem-Level Impact of Multi-User Diversity in SISO and MIMO-based Cellular Systems
We quantify cell-wide mean throughputs of single-input-single-output (SISO) and multiple-inputmultiple-output (MIMO)-based cellular systems which employ multi-user diversity (MuD). Our study considers several practical and useful system-level design dimensions, including: number of transmit/receive antennas; antenna-pattern (omni-directional or sectorized); degree of error-protection (Shannon c...
متن کاملImpact of Channel State Misreporting on Multi-user Massive MIMO Scheduling Performance
The robustness of system throughput with scheduling is a critical issue. In this paper, we analyze the sensitivity of multi-user scheduling performance to channel misreporting in systems with massive antennas. The main result is that for the round-robin scheduler combined with max-min power control, the channel magnitude misreporting is harmful to the scheduling performance and has a different ...

متن کاملCoded Pilot Access: A Random Access Solution for Massive MIMO Systems
We present a novel access protocol for crowd scenarios in massive MIMO (Multiple-input multiple-output) systems. Crowd scenarios are characterized by a large number of users with intermittent access behavior, whereby orthogonal scheduling is infeasible. In such scenarios, random access is a natural choice. The proposed access protocol relies on two essential properties of a massive MIMO system,...
